Assassin’s Creed Shadows was initially set to be released in November 2024 but was soon delayed to 2025. Not only that but it waspostponed once again, from its new release date of Valentine’s Day to a new one in March.
Outside of the delays, the game was also in the news for various reasons, such as featuring a black character as the protagonist, some people claiming it disrespects Japanese culture, and more. Apparently, all the bad press didn’t affect the game, as it continues to soar well past what gamers would expect.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Has Now Eclipsed The Launch of AC Origins and AC Odyssey
FollowingUbisoft’s announcementthat AC Shadows reached a million players in its first 24 hours, that number doubled in just a few days. The publisher has now revealed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has passed two million players across all platforms.
There’s no breakdown on how this two-million-dollar number is spread out, but the game has established a new all-time peak concurrent player count on Steam with over 59,000 players (via Steam Charts). Given it’s the start of the weekend, there’s a huge possibility this number will even go higher before Monday hits. Don’t forget that Steam is a small sample size, as the game is also available on Ubisoft Connect on PCs and consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the game’s sales are on consoles since it’s primarily seen as a console game.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Provides Respite For Ubisoft Who’s In Need Of A Big Hit
This is incredible news for Ubisoft, which has been starving for a hit recently, given that its last AAA title, Star Wars Outlaws, failed to live up to expectations. Ubisoft has yet to publicly reveal the game’s sales numbers, though they don’t paint a pretty pictureif you use Steam as a barometer. Not only that, but Ubisoft also had to shut down its free-to-play arena shooter XDefiant months after it launched on consoles and PC.
Will the game reach three million? We can’t say for sure since that’s a high mountain to climb, but it’s on the right track so far. There is no word yet on whether we’re getting a roadmap for AC Shadows, but expect patches for it to fix any nagging issues in the near future. Speaking of which, check out the day-one update changesmade by Ubisoft that players should see reflected in the game already.
