In the closing months of the previous year, Steam unveiled its ‘Best of Steam 2023’, highlighting the highest-grossing games on the platform. Fast forward to a few weeks into the new year, and the ‘Global PC Market Report 2024’ by Video Game Insights has been published, providing precise details on the top-selling games on Valve’s storefront. As expected, RPGs were the standout genre on Steam last year, with a significant number of the top 10 games belonging to this category.
An interesting trend that was prevalent in 2023 was the leading game genres which were Adventure, Action and RPG, being led by the top 3 plus others. It’s no surprise we had some great RPG contenders last year.
A graphics visual by the account Baiisun on Twitter shows the chart in detail, showing Baldur’s Gate 3’s revenue topped $657 million.Hogwarts Legacywas in $341 million and Starfield with $235 million. BG3 has also earned ten times that of Star Wars: Jedi Survivor.

The Steam Best of 2024 puts games into four different categories, rating them from Bronze to Platinum but not revealing their revenue. Other heavy hitters includeElden Ring, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon and Resident Evil 4.
