MercurySteam, the creators ofCastlevania: Lords of ShadowandMetroid Dread, have released a five-minute gameplay video of the action-adventureBlades: The Edge of DarknessforPC, PS5, and Xbox Series.

Blades of Fire New Gameplay Focused on Combat

The footage presents over five minutes of unedited gameplay, focusing on the intricacies of its demanding combat system. In battles against skeletons and invisible creatures, the protagonist, Aran, wields different types of weapons, each with varying effectiveness depending on the enemy—indicated by the outline of the adversary.

The gameplay highlights the importance of attack direction and parrying, which is tied to blocking. A stamina bar shows how many hits Aran can endure, and the gauge partially refills when executing a successful parry.

Blades of Fire Showcases Its Combat System in New Gameplay

The video also showcases anvils, which function similarly to bonfires inDark Souls. Players can rest at them to restore healing potions, use them as fast travel points, and access the forge to craft and repair weapons.

Launching in May for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series

As seen in this gameplay segment, Aran is accompanied by Adso, in a manner similar to Kratos and Atreus in the modernGod of Wargames. Adso takes notes on newly encountered enemies and can decipher symbols that are unreadable to Aran, among other abilities.

At Vandal, we had the opportunity to play a preliminary version for several hours. As we mentioned in our impressions, it stands out as an action-adventure with “a strong identity in gameplay, capable of surprising players frequently, and constantly encouraging experimentation through its weapon-forging system.” It will launch on May 22 forPC (exclusive to the Epic Games Store),PS5, and Xbox Series.
