One of the many newMarvelcharacters that will be introduced inCaptain America: Civil WarisChadwick Boseman’s T’challa, who will return with his ownBlack Panthermovie in 2018. We got our official look at this iconic character in thefirst trailerforCaptain America: Civil Warthat dropped last month, and we learned last week that, although T’challa will officially be on Team Iron Man during this epic conflict, he’s still undecided about what side he should be on. One ofChadwick Boseman’s longtime friends isAnthony Mackie(The Falcon), who revealed in an interview withComic Book Resourcesthat he thinksChadwick Boseman’s T’challa will be “timeless.”
“I’ve knownChadfor a long time. I was very happy when I heard he got cast asBlack Panther, because I knew he’d do the work to bring that character to life. It’s not so much about two black actors being in a movie at the same time. It’s more so about the right black actor getting that role to do the work to make it timeless, and Chadwick is that guy.”
The first trailer forCaptain America: Civil Warteased plenty of action and one of the biggest castsMarvelhas ever assembled. All of theAvengerswill be present, except for Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), along with several new and old characters alike. While there is still plenty of action for fans to enjoy,Anthony Mackierevealed one of his favorite aspects of working withMarvelis that they don’t undervalue the art of acting, adding that fans have responded to these MCU movies because they can relate to these characters.
“You know, the great thing about it is that I feel like what the trailer showed more than anything is Marvel has kind of infused action movies with acting. Not like subdued, brooding acting. They’re giving actors an opportunity to flourish and do the things you would do in another type of movie. And now they’re putting that into superhero movies, which is amazing, because it makes you relate to the characters. The reason we loveCaptain Americaso much is because we can relate to him. The reason we love Tony Stark so much is because we relate to him. They make him human. It’s hard to love a billionaire, philanthropist playboy that hates his life. It’s like, if I had a billion dollars and I was a philanthropist and a playboy, my life would be dope! I’d get to hang out withMorgan Freemaneveryday. I love my life. So it’s interesting when you see those characters just how much fun it is to put yourself in there.”
Captain America: Civil Warwill be the first MCU movie to address the concept of a “secret identity,” since no one knows that T’challa, who is part of the royal family of Wakanda, is actuallyBlack Panther. A newscene descriptionfrom the movie reveals that a silent T’challa is walking with Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and The Falcon, along with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) andMartin Freeman’s unidentified character. While T’challa remains quiet throughout this scene, he is present while Cap and Iron Man are about to be disciplined for the latest disaster involving the Avengers. This epic adventure will also bring backPaul Rudd’s Scott Lang, who clashed with The Falcon in this summer’sAnt-Man. WhenAnthony Mackiewas asked if Falcon and Lang will go toe-to-toe inCaptain America: Civil War, he would only say that he’s waiting for his rematch.
