Captain America: Brave New Worldis going to tackle one of the MCU’s biggest mysteries: what happened to the giant Celestial, Tiamut, that’s currently in the middle of the Pacific Ocean? When it was last seen, the Celestial had been converted into stone, leaving a giant statue emerging from the depths of the Earth.
InCaptain America: Brave New World’s latest trailer,Tiamut can briefly be spotted at several key points. The first moment occurs when U.S. warships open fire on the giant, hinting at some sort of war over the new territory and its resources. The second is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo, which occurs when Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) is seen flying past the statue in his new, blue super suit.

Captain America: Brave New World
Captain America: Brave New World (formerly titledNew World Order)marks Sam Wilson’s first MCU big-screen appearance as Steve Rogers' successor after receiving the suit and shield in Phase 4’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie returns as the titular Avenger alongside Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Carl Lumby as Isaiah Bradley, and Tim Blake Nelson as The Incredible Hulk’s former ally Samuel Sterns. Harrison Ford makes his MCU debut replacing the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross.
The question of why the Celestial has never been mentioned in more than a brief passing reference, such as a newspaper clipping seen inShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law, has bugged fans for years. However, many Marvel mysteries have been forced to wait for years to get their big pay off, such as the introduction of Adam Warlock, first teased inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2in 2017 but not mentioned again until 2023’s third Guardians movie. It seems that, similarly, Tiamut’s time has now come.

Tiamut’s Status Has Been a Mystery for Years
InEternals, it was revealed that the Earth was actually a Celestial egg thatwas set to hatch after the Earth had reached a certain population size, destroying the planet in the birthing process. The Eternals managed to stop this by combining their powers into the Uni-Mind, granting Sersi (Gemma Chan) enough power to turn the creature into stone.
In the process,Tiamut was killed, but its corpse was left sticking out of Pacific Ocean. Fans have wondered about this plot point ever since — after all, wouldn’t the presence of a large, alien being disrupt life on Earth? As it turns out, fans finally have their answer: the Celestial will play a key role inCaptain America: Brave New World.

Captain America: Brave New World Teaser Trailer
Anthony Mackie is Captain America and Harrison Ford is Thaddeus Ross in the new trailer for Marvel’s Brave New World.
While plot details are unknown, fans have speculated that Sersi turned the Celestial into Adamantium, making it into a resource for the ultra-rare, ultra-dense material.Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverintroduced the idea that the world’s political superpowers are attempting to catch up with Wakanda, with the United States government looking into Vibranium as a potential new resource.

That plot was foiled inBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever, but a new source of Adamantium may reignite the government’s fervor for new resources inCaptain America: Brave New World. WithDeadpool & Wolverineon the way, it would also make sense that the MCU would begin introducing elementsfrom itsX-Menbrand. Famously,Wolverine’s claws are made from Adamantium, and while the character already has his Adamantium claws in the movie, he’s an alternate-universe version of the character, not from the mainline MCU.
This marks the first time that Marvel has followed up onThe Eternalsin a major way since the 2021 film’s underperformance. Marvel had banked on the movie being an Academy Award contender, but its critical and financial performance was lukewarm; little has been heard about it since, including the chances of a sequel despite several major plot points setting up future stories. Of course, Marvel Studios like to play the long-game, and there is little doubt that all of these characters will return again in some form sometime in the future.
