Lionsgate is moving forward with itsJekyllmovie, and it seems the studio has found its leading man. A new report reveals thatCaptain America: Civil WarstarChris Evanshas become attached in the lead role as Tom Jackman for the studio. The project is still in fairly early stages, with no director attached at this time.
Deadlinereports that the studio is developing this project based on the 2007 UK miniseries of the same name. The miniseries spanned six episodes and was written byDoctor WhoandSherlockcreatorSteven Moffat. Lionsgate has brought inAnthony BagarozziandChuck Mondry(The Nice Guys) to write the script, although no plot details were given.
Interestingly enough,The Nice GuysstarRussell Crowerecently signed on to playDr. Jekyllin Universal Pictures' monster rebootThe Mummy, where he’ll star alongsideTom Cruise,Sofia Boutella,Annabelle WallisandJake Johnson. TheRobert Louis Stevensonnovel that theJekyllcharacter debuts in is currently in the public domain, which could set the stage for a showdown between both versions of Dr. Jekyll. Then again,The Mummyis deep into production, with a August 02, 2025 release date set, andJekyllisn’t nearly that far into production yet.
The original BBC miniseries starredJames Nesbittas Jackman, who is a modern-day descendant of Dr. Jekyll who begins to show signs of the split personality disorder that plagued his late relative. He abandons his family to live in a basement stronghold where he tries to find a way for both personalities to co-exist. It isn’t known how closely this movie will be adapted from the miniseries, which essentially served as a sequel to theoriginal novel.
