After two years of waiting for Muro Studios' metal take on metroidvanias to finish cooking, fans and curious onlookers alike can now at last dive fully into Doomblade. The game has launched for PC via Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store, and it’s looking likeits two-man development team has spent these past couple of years quite well.Have a look at the adventure they’ve crafted in the launch trailer below, then read on for all the details.

When one encounters a living sword that’s spent last few ages sealed away in a forgotten cell, best practice is usually to just turn right around and leave it alone, especially if said sword is overflowing with malevolent intent. If one happens to be the last of their kind living in a hellscape ruled by entities known as the “Dread Lords” though, a weapon filled with boiling rage might actually be quite handy. Such is the situation of Gloom Girl, a shadowy sprite who stumbles upon Doomblade.

It was imprisoned eons ago by the very same Dread Lords the ruined this corner of the world and drove Gloom Girl’s people, the Gloomfolk, to virtual extinction, and it’s just dying for a chance to pay them back. All Doomblade needs in order to start wreaking havoc again is a wielder, and it could do worse than a fellow vengeance-seeker. All that time it spent imprisoned has left the Doomblade weaker than it was before, so the first order of business is to travel this world and recover its full set of devastating abilities.

What sets Doomblade apart from most of itsmetroidvania peersis a combat system that doubles as the players main means of getting around. Gloom Girl can’t do much besides walk and jump a little, so she has to rely on Doomblade to carry her through the world and past any dangers or obstacles. This is an angry living sword we’re talking about here, though, so “getting around” usually means zooming straight into the heart of any enemy unlucky enough to be in the pair’s path.

At first, all Doomblade needs to attack a creature is a clear line of sight, but even that restriction will eventually get lifted as the sword grows in power. Enemies won’t typically just sit and wait to get eviscerated, though, so making progress is all about mastering the blade’s abilities and using them to combo anything and everything out of existence. Of course, this includes the Dread Lords that caused this whole situation in the first place.

Again, Doomblade is available now on PC viaSteam,GOG and Epic Games Store for $14.99.  Itspreviously-available demooffered controller support in addition to mouse and keyboard, so enjoyers of both control schemes should be able to enjoy it however they like best.
