Studio Rebel Wolves made up of ex Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 developers are working on an RPG that they “would love to play”.

Ex-Devs from CP2077 and Witcher 3 Are Creating Their “Dream” RPG

It’s not every day that a developer gets to say they are working on their “dream” project but Rebel Wolves are doing just that. Made up of veterans in the industry, having worked on major RPGsCyberpunk 2077and The Witcher 3, the new studio is cooking up something big. The dark fantasy RPG has yet to have a project name but is teased to be a AAA, story-driven new IP, set to “revolutionize the RPG genre”.

The Warsaw, Poland-based studio was founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz who was the director forThe Witcher 3before he departed CD Project Red in 2021. He also has recruited former quest designer for CP2077, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz who also worked on Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. These aren’t the only former CD Project Red members to join the new studio.

Rebel Wolves are developing a dark fantasy CRPG that will have unforgettable stories and be a game they’d want to play themselves.

Unforgettable Stories

Konrad teases the aim of the studio is to “evolve the CRPG genre” with a blend of “unforgettable stories” and “stirring deep emotions”. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz who is working as the creative director for the game says they aiming to deliver an “RPG we’d love to play ourselves”. The game is still fairly on in production, currently in the alpha stage. The studio is planning to reveal more later this year.

At the end of last year, the team has been recruiting for a few roles including Combat Designer, Gameplay Designer, Gameplay Programmer and Tools Programmer. These job listings require potential to have experience with Unreal Engine 5, and reveal “open-world elements” in one listing. Just how open-world the game will be is yet to be discussed.

New Studios

The project sounds intriguing and we’ll be keeping an eye on this one. This isn’t the only studio fueled by devs who have worked at CDPR. There’s Fool’s Theory who are developing the narrative-driven RPGThe Thaumaturgecoming out in February and are collaborating on theThe Witcher Remakewith CDPR.Dark Passengeris another studio currently working on an online action game set in feudal Japan.

Studio Archetype Entertainment made up of talent who have worked on such games as Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect are working on a sci-fi RPGExoduswhich was revealed during TGA 2023. There seem to be some good games to look forward to in the next few years.
