Dr. Frasier Crane won’t return to Seattle for Paramount+’s upcoming sequel seriesFrasier, but we will see him in a familiar place. The anticipated revival will catch up with the doctor’s current life in Boston,Deadlinereports. The city is familiar to Frasier, as it’s where audiences first meet the beloved character. Kelsey Grammer began portraying Frasier during the premiere ofCheers' third season. He was introduced as Diane Chambers' (Shelley Long) love interest and remained on the show until its final eleventh season.
AsCheers' doors closed in 1993, another opened for Grammer, and later that year, he returned as the titular character inFrasier.The sitcom followed Frasier from Boston to Seattle, where he lived with his father, fraternized with his brother, and worked as a radio psychiatrist. Through its eleven-year run,Frasieraccumulated37 Emmy Awards, including five for Outstanding Comedy series.

According to Paramount+, the series revival will see Frasier “in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston, Mass., with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.”

James Burrow Signs on for Series Revival
Cheersco-creator, executive producer, and multi-episode director James Burrow has signed on to direct the first two episodes of the upcoming sequel series. Burrows also directedFraiser’s 1993 pilot episode and several others. He is also known for his work on other beloved series, includingWill & Grace, Wings, Friends,andTaxi. He has earned 10 Emmy Awards, among many other accolades.
While Grammer and Burrows will both return for the anticipated sequel, the same cannot be said for the series' original cast members, as David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, and Peri Gilpin are not tied to the project. In November, Grammer confirmed that Pierce would not be reprising the role of Niles Crane. Sadly, John Mahoney, who portrayed the Crane family patriarch, passed away in 2018 following a battle with cancer. Grammer previously said the new show would honor Mahoney’s legacy.
The seriesreunites Grammer with actor Nicholas Lyndhurst, who he collaborated with on the English National Opera’sMan of La Mancha. Lyndhurst has been cast as Alan, Frasier’s former college friend, now a university professor. The new cast members also include Jack Cutmore-Scott as Freddy, Frasier’s son; Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, the head of the university psychology department; Jess Salguerio as Eve, Freddy’s roommate; and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew, David.
Grammer will also serve as an executive producer for the series along with Tom Russo, Jordan McMahon, and co-writers Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life In Pieces).
