The Nafitar Staff inCreatures of Avawields multiple powers or spells, which are unlocked through Sagestones as you progress in the story. You might have noticed that you’re able to only have two active spells, as seen beside your health bar. The game is designed this way, and you’ll have to switch between spells once you have unlocked more than two. Here’s how you can switch between spells even during combat in Creatures of Ava.
How to Change Spells or Powers in Creatures of Ava
While in the open world, you’ll see your two active spells next to your health bar. If you hold the button for one of your active spells, a spell wheel will appear instead of you casting the spell. Use your mouse or the analog stick to pick one of the inactive spells and set it as your active spell.
The spell attached to the button you held will be replaced by the new spell. If the spell you want to replace or switch is on cooldown, you’re able to still swap it out for another spell. However, the cooldown does share with one another. So, if you use Ushun and swap it out to Dhom, Dhom will be on cooldown.

These spell switches only matter after you have finished the Sagestone puzzle in the Nari Jungle because this will unlock your third spell. You’ll unlock one more spell in the next biome, which will let you juggle around four spells.
Best Spell Combos in Creatures of Ava
Even if these spells share a cooldown when you switch them around, you may create amazing spell combos. For example, if you take the Dhom III skill upgrade, which is one of the best skills in the game, the duration of Dhom’s slow will restart if the target gets hit by a spell. You can hold the Dhom effect on a target permanently if you switch out Dhom to another spell.
Here’s an example of a combo:
Depending on your upgraded spells, you can change which one to use to restart the Dhom effect. For more guides on Creatures of Ava, check outHow to Fast Travel in Creatures of Ava.
