In the Wild Update, Minecraft patch 1.19, a new feature was added that allowed Clay to be more plentiful. With this small change, that allows you to turn Mud into Clay, you’re able to now create Clay Farms. Here’s how to start your first Clay Farm.

How to turn Mud into Clay in Minecraft

Mud will turn into Clay when placed on top of aDripstone Blockwith a space below it. This is because the dripstone “drains” the moisture out of the mud, eventually turning it into clay. This can be used to create a Clay Farm.

Fastest way to get Clay in Minecraft

Clay Farms are the fastest way to generate Clay. Once played on top of a dripstone block with aPointed Dripstonebelow, Mud will rapidly change into clay. you may speed up this process by building a contraption like the one shown below. Simply place aCauldronwith a Dripstone Block and Pointed Dripstone above it and finally place the Mud on top. The Mud will change into Clay, and the Cauldron will slowly fill up with water.

Of course, the best way to speed up this production even quicker is to scale things up. Use rows of multiple Dripstone Blocks with Mud.

Replacing the Mud

Once you’ve harvested your Clay (preferably with a shovel that has the Fortune enchantment to get the most Clay possible), you can refill your Mud. To do this, take aGlass Bottleand fill it withWater, either from the Cauldrons below your farm, or a water source nearby. Apply theWater BottletoDirtplaced where you want Mud to generate. And now you’re ready to generate even more Clay.

The Clay can be cooked in Furnaces to makeBricks. And Bricks are used to makeBrick BlocksandFlower Pots. With this handy trick of farming Clay it’s now simple to make huge Brick Block structures and hundreds of Flower Pots!
