Review: Atomfall

Does Rebellion’s attempt at breaking into the survival-crafting space “fall” flat?

Since there’s a lot to explore, you might end up distracted by side tasks and end up in Wyndham Village instead first. However, you can get to the Interchange rather early in the game, but you might need to do some fighting while on your way.

Finding the Entrance to the Interchange

When you leave the initial bunker that you start the game inside, there’s a man named Nat in the ruins of a building. If you speak with him, he’llsend you to Molly, marking her location on your map. Molly then gives you the rumored location of the Interchange’s entrance. While this isn’t the only route, it’s the most convenient, since youcan also pick up a flashlight, metal detector, and key for a shelter from Mollyat the same time.

Otherwise, you can find leads that’ll take you to the Interchange’s entrance at the convoy crash site or inBunker L6. If you don’t feel like picking up a lead, you can just walk to the entrance and find it that way. Once you find the gated door and enter it, you have to head up thestairs to your left to find the controls for the quarantine door, which finally lets you inside the Interchange.

Powering the Interchange

You need a total offour atomic batteries to restore powerto the Central Processor, which means you need to power all four data centers and reconnect them to the Central Processor. Luckily, everything in the Interchange is labeled and there are maps on the walls to help guide you around. Data Centers C and D are the easiest to access, and allow you to access A and B. However, you need to pay a visit to Mother Jago and complete her quest before restoring power to Data Center A, otherwise you’ll die.

You can get an atomic battery from Molly, and she’ll tell you that she sold another one to a vicar in Wyndham Village. Head to the village and go to the cathedral. Talk to the vicar there and tell him you’ll keep quiet about the incident you walked in on if he gives you the battery, which he agrees to. Once you put those batteries in C and D, youget access to Medical and Robotics.

Once you restore power to the Central Processor, you learn about Oberon and what happened, but that also ends your first main quest. From here, you’ll continue following leads until you reach an ending that allows you to leave behind the disaster that ruined lives inside and around the Interchange in Atomfall.
