Despite what feels like a slow moment in thejailbreakcommunity, a lot has actually been happening behind the scenes. New faces are working on jailbreaks such as thepalera1ntool for A9-A11 devices on iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.7.1 and the XinaA15 tool for A12-A15 handsets running iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1.

With everything feeling completely decentralized, it’s more challenging than ever to keep a grasp on everything that’s going on, and even more so if you’re busy working throughout the week and can’t monitor your phone all day.

Weekly jailbreak news roundup.

That’s where we come in — we’ve made a detailed roundup that showcases all the latest jailbreak tweaks and jailbreak-centric news from the week of Monday, December 12thto Sunday, December 18th.

Important stuff from this week

palera1n jailbreak adds iOS 16 support

Thepalera1njailbreak tool for checkm8 bootrom exploit-susceptible devices (iPhone X and older) now supports iOS & iPadOS 16 devices.

While the jailbreak does support tweak injection, many tweaks are not yet ready for iOS or iPadOS 16. It’s also worth noting that there are some passcode and biometric authentication caveats you need to know about before moving forward.

Kernel vulnerability for iOS 16.1.2

Security researcher @_simo36 showed off a kernel-level vulnerability PoC on an iPhone 14 running iOS 16.1.2.

While this isn’t a jailbreak, it is an important piece of a puzzle. If anexploitcould be made out of it, then it would be a single link of a chain of exploits and vulnerabilities that could make a jailbreak. Unfortunately, the other links of the chain haven’t yet been published by any security researcher, so we’re still at square one as far as iOS 16 goes.

tfp0 achieved on checkm8 device running iOS 16.1.1

It appears that tfp0 (kernel task port) has been achieved on a checkm8-vulnerable handset running iOS 16.1.1, a feat that may contribute to adding jailbreak support to the A10X-A11 device families on iOS & iPadOS 16.x.

GUI coming soon for palera1n jailbreak

The palera1n jailbreak is largely a command line interface (CLI)-based jailbreak tool, but a graphical user interface (GUI) could be offered by the palera1n team in the future.

In this announcement, the palera1n team also advised against using any sort of third-party GUI in the process, as it could do users more harm than good.

New Sileo build for XinaA15

TheSileoTeam shared a new build of Sileo for the XinaA15 experimental jailbreak for A12-A15 devices running iOS or iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 that would address the repository sign-in issues affecting jailbreak users.

The sign-in issues prevented users from downloading their paid jailbreak tweak purchases from major repositories such asHavocand Chariz, so the sign-in fix certainly needed to be addressed.

Another updatereleased later in the weekaddressed a problem with default repositories and package sorting.
