Some things just make sense together: peanut butter and jelly, cheese and crackers,Jason MomoaandAndy Samberg. That last one is, of course, a new addition to the snack cabinet, as the actors have recently sold their two-hander action comedy film to Netflix. In what was a reportedly “highly competitive” situation, theA Minecraft MovieandBrooklyn Nine-Ninestars are slated to star in an as-yet-untitled film, bringing togethertwo very different, but complementary, flavors of comedic timing.
In a report exclusively reported byDeadline, we were only given a scant few details about a film that already feels rife with potential given the players involved. Though there is no director attached (or at least, not one that has been announced), the film will be written bySaturday Night LivealumsRob KleinandJohn Solomon. Between the two of them, Klein and Solomon have been nominated 19 times for Emmy Awards. What we do know is that the film is set in Momoa’s native Hawaii, and all other plot details are being kept under wraps (probably because the script itself hasn’t been written yet, meaning many things can still change on that front).

Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg Have Been Absolutely Killing It The Past Few Years
Momoa is currently one of the biggest movie stars going right now, thanks to the success of his Warner Bros. Pictures/Legendary video game filmA Minecraft Movie. But he’s got so much more coming down the pike — more thanhis return to Denis Villenueve’sDune-iverse! Up next isChief of War, a historical drama miniseries that he co-created alongside producer and writer Thomas Pa’a Sibbett (whom he worked with onAquaman and the Lost Kingdom) about the unification of the Hawaiian Islands from an indigenous perspective. And we’d be remiss to not mention his turn as Lobo in the upcomingSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a longtime dream of the actor’s.
As for Samberg, who recently played Kamala Harris' husband Doug Emhoff duringSaturday Night Live’s 50th Season, the actor and writer has gone more of a behind-the-scenes route since his star turn onBrooklyn Nine-Nine. He’s executive produced many series, includingI Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson,PEN15, andBaking It.He also created the seriesDigman!, and has voiced many characters in animated projects likeSpider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse,Mulligan,andChip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers. But perhaps his most exciting production project is the much-hyped sequel to the now-cult-classic,MacGruber. Though itsRotten Tomatoes scoresare low, fans are obsessed with the film. And for people looking for a more serious comedy from the actor, he’s starring inJay Roach’s remakeof 1989’sThe War of the Roses, titled simplyThe Roses.
