It has not been a very good week for the cast and crew of Roseanne. Series creator and star, Roseanne Barr took to social media to make a racist comment about former White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, which has since been deleted. After that post and another bashing Chelsea Clinton with conspiracy theories went viral and sparked outrage, ABC took little time in canceling the hit revival series. John Goodman, who plays husband and father Dan Conner onRoseanne, has now broken his silence regarding all of the drama that is currently surrounding the cast and crew.
Entertainment Tonight obtained some footage of John Goodman at an auto repair shop in New Orleans where he was asked about the cancelation ofRoseanne. The 65-year old actor was hesitant to say much about his former co-star and first said that he’d “rather say nothing than to cause more trouble.” Stars Sara Gilbert and Michael Fishman took to social media to comment on Roseanne Barr’s tweets, calling them abhorrent. Barr posted the tweets after a holiday weekend of partying and Ambien, according to the comedian and was apologetic at first. However, she later fired back at Fishman and Gilbert, implying that they were ungrateful and said that they “threw her under the bus.” When asked about all of the news surrounding Barr, John Goodman said.
“I don’t know anything about it. I don’t read it.”
It seems pretty wise of John Goodman to not want to say anything at this point in time. Though Goodman did want to assure fans of theRoseanneseries that he is doing okay and revealed that “everything’s fine.” In addition, Goodman was asked about ABC’s decision to suspend the Emmys For Your Consideration campaign for the 10th Season, and admitted that it didn’t really bother him. He had this to say.
“I wasn’t gonna get an Emmy anyway. I’ve been up there (11) times already, and if I didn’t get one I’m not gonna get one.”
As soon as ABC made the decision to cancelRoseanne, reports started to trickle in about apossible different version of the showthat would not includeRoseanne Barr. According to unconfirmed reports, the spin-off series would include all of the cast except for Barr and be called something different with a focus on John Goodman’s Dan Conner character. When asked about the spin-off rumors, Goodman claimed that he had not heard them. Goodman simply said, “Then you’ve heard more than I have.”
It seems highly unlikely that aRoseannespin-off will happen. For one thing, Roseanne Barr created or co-created all of the characters and owns the rights. It has been reported that series stars John Goodman and Sara Gilbert will still get paid for thenow canceled 11th Season, but the same cannot be said for the rest of the actors and crew of the former hit show. For now,Roseanneis canceled and Barr has a lot of explaining to do. Hopefully, she finally gets some rest and possibly some help.
