Kiahas announcedthat owners of its EV6, EV9, and Niro EVs can now charge their vehicles at Tesla’s Supercharger Network in the US.

You’ll need an NACS adapter to charge your Kia at a Tesla site
Kia EV owners have waited a long time for this day to arrive. Originally, Kias were slated to receive support for Tesla Superchargers back in January, but it was delayed “until spring” with no explanation provided other than saying a “delay has occurred” (viaElectrek). Most major automakers in the US have begun transitioning their new EVs to NACS, meaning that in the not-so-distant future, adapters won’t be needed anymore.

With Kia EVs now officially supported at Superchargers, all owners will need to start charging is an NACS adapter. The NACS adapter converts CCS (Combined Charging System) ports found on Kia’s EVs, as well as those of many other brands, to NACS (North American Charging Standard), which used to be Tesla’s proprietary charging standard before itopened it up to other automakersin 2022.
Kia customers who purchased a 2024 or 2025 EV6 or EV9 after September 4 are eligible to receive a free NACS adapter. However, other Kia owners will need to pay $249 for it. The 2025 Kia EV5 will not require an adapter, as it is launching soon with a native NACS port.

In total, nine brands are actively working on adding compatibility with Tesla’s North American Supercharging network: BMW, JLR, Honda, Acura, Toyota, Subaru, Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche.

An increasing number of automakers are adopting support for NACS adapters and incorporating them into their future vehicles, which is a positive sign and will make charging wherever you are much easier.
