Last week, it was heavily speculated thatSpace Jam 2is finally happening after Warner Bros. announced an exclusive deal with NBA All-StarLeBron James. While the studio confirmed that the basketball player had signed an exclusive partnership with Warner Bros. that covers projects ranging from TV, film, and original digital content, no specific project was announced. That didn’t stop many from immediately jumping to the conclusion thatSpace Jam 2is definitely the main projectLeBron Jamesis focused on. While we’ve heard nothing in the days since the deal was announced,LeBron Jameshas jumped on his personalTwitterto tease everyone that an announcement could be coming. Answering a fan’s question on whether or not it will happen, the athlete-turned-actor had this to say.

“Maybe…….Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”

If he is not starring inSpace Jam 2, why throw this tiny bit of bait out there? It seems very likely at this point thatLeBron Jameswill take over forMichael Jordanin carrying theLooney Tuneslegacy into the future withSpace Jam 2, and there is more evidence than just the deal struck by Warner Bros. and the baseball legend. WhileSpace Jam 2has never been announced in any official capacity, it sure seems like everyone involved wants to make it happen.

News of aSpace Jam 2began to circulate last year. Word leaked that Warner Bros. was teaming with the sons of legendary sportscaster Dick Ebersol, with the pair set on producing. The story was later debunked by ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst, with those close toLeBron Jamessaying no film was in the works. This was beforeLeBron Jameswowed audiences with his performance inTrainwreck, which proved he could behilariouson the big screen in the right capacity. Some believe it was this co-starring role that convinced Warner Bros. to bringLeBron Jamesin for a partnership deal.

It isn’t known ifSpace Jam 2will be a sequel or reboot, but it certainly seems like the perfect project for both LeBron James and Warner Bros., who have been looking for a way to once again establish their very lucrative Looney Tunes characters in a big screen venture. LeBron James appears to have the charm and charisma to carry a movie on his own, and it helps that he would once again be playing himself. Further fueling the rumors last week was the fact that Warner Bros. filed new trademarks forSpace Jamlast month. It didn’t seem like a coincidence that these trademarks were filed exactly one month before Warner Bros. announced their big deal with LeBron James.

It only seems like a matter of time before the movie gets officially announced. You may remember that LeBron James tweeted way back in 2012 that he was a super fan ofSpace Jam, and wished that he could star inSpace Jam 2. While originalSpace JamproducerIvan Reitmandismissed the idea last year, he later revealed that there was talk of LeBron James coming in for a sequel. There has been a lot of enthusiasm from fans, with LeBron James the only logical choice to star inSpace Jam 2. LeBron James' latest tweet certainly keeps the hope alive. Do you think this should happen? Or will you be disappointed when it finally gets officially announced?
