Disney is set to bring back one of its most beloved stories,Lilo & Stitch, in a live-action remake. The 2002 animated classic, known for its heartwarming tale of friendship and family, is being reimagined with a talented cast, includingBilly Magnussenas the eccentric alien, Pleakley.

In a recent interview withGamesRadar, Magnussen shared his excitement about being part of the project. Having been part of the live-action Aladdin, he’s already experienced working on reimagining Disney classics. Magnussen emphasized the importance of approaching such beloved material with love and reverence. The actor said:

“I don’t think you may compare pieces of art to each other. I adored working with everyone in this. Rideback was the producing house making this film, and I did Aladdin with them.Again, it’s a story about connection, and a kid trying to find a friend, and all you can do is approach a project like that with love.I am so grateful and honored to be a part of that project.”

Lilo & Stitch originally tells the story of Lilo and Nani, sisters from Hawaii, who embark on adventures with Stitch, an alien disguised as a dog. The movie, set against Hawaii’s breathtaking scenery, examines themes of family, acceptance, and the strength of love. The live-action adaptation aspires to preserve the original’s heart while introducing the characters and story in a novel manner.

Over the years, there have been quite a few live-action adaptations of popular cartoons to hit our screens.

Joining Magnussen in the cast are Zach Galifianakis as Jumba, the mad scientist responsible for creating Stitch; Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles, the social worker with a secret; and Tia Carrere as Mrs. Kekoa, a character likely to add local flavor to the story. The roles of Nani, David, and the titular character Lilo will be portrayed by Sydney Agudong, Kaipo Dudoit, and Maia Kealoha, respectively. Chris Sanders, who was both a co-writer and director of the 2002 movie, will return to voice Stitch in arespectful nod to the original.
