An early release date forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2(2022)is reportedly on the cards at Activision due to the poor sales performance ofCall of Duty: Vanguard.

Although yet to be confirmed by anyone atCall of Duty, the next title in the hit franchise is rumoured to be a continuation of 2019’s reboot ofModern Warfare. The sequel was expected to launch at the beginning of November, similar to all otherCall of Dutytitles, but it looks like that could be about to change.

Insider Claims Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Set For October Release

The rumour comes from industry insiderTom Henderson, who claims thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2(2022) will be announced sometime in the summer. Henderson went on to state that he is “hearing rumblings that the title could release in October”.

AlthoughCall of Dutytitles often release at the beginning of November, an October release date wouldn’t be the strangest thing in the world.Black Ops 4was one of the first titles to release at the beginning of October, with the only otherCall of Dutygames to have an October release date beingCall of Duty, Call of Duty 2, andCall of Duty: Modern Warfare(2019).

Henderson didn’t state how much earlierModern Warfare 2could release, but that it is being discussed due to the poor sales performance ofCall of Duty: Vanguard. It may be a case of simply pushing the release date forward by a week or two, as opposed to an early October launch.

However, another interesting factor included in Henderson’s claim is that a “big"Warzoneupdate will be coming soon after the release ofModern Warfare 2.

Warzonefans are still getting to grips with the new Caldera Map that launched shortly afterCall of Duty: Vanguard, but it has been known for some time that a new map is speculated to arrive with the release ofModern Warfare 2. Hopefully this time the launch goes a little smoother.
