In thisNo Rest for the Wickedguide, we will be taking a look at a build that you can put together once you’ve reached the end of early game around level 10-11 and go into the mid game, which you can put together for level 11-20 and potentially beyond.
No Rest For The Wicked Gauntlets Build
This build utilizesthe Gauntletweapon type and features a highly agile combat style that will have you dancing like a butterfly and stinging like a bee.The Wild Monk Buildis a mid-game, Faith-focused setup that uses a weapon that feels very similar to an Agility-based weapon.
Gear and Spells
Forthe Wild Monk build, we’ll be using theShellguard Gauntletsas our primary weapon. This is a dual-wielding gauntlet weapon type that requires at least 19 points in Faith to equip and scales with the Faith attribute.
The gauntlets have a very swift and agile moveset, with a reliable option to disrupt enemy attacks using dash attacks that perform a kick, knocking enemies down. In addition, they can unleash a rapid flurry of strikes that quickly fill the enemy’s poise bar, giving you more opportunities to stun them.
The Shellguard Gauntletscome equipped with a powerful rune spell:Buster Rift. This spell costs 125 Focus Points and unleashes two powerful fist strikes that deal massive damage.Buster Riftenables the build to handle groups of enemies and bosses more effectively thanks to its high burst damage.
The second spell, we’ll useBreakrush, a rune spell found on theCrystal Fist gauntlets. This spell delivers a series of rapid jabs at close range. While the damage isn’t particularly high, it’s very effective at quickly breaking enemy poise within a short window of opportunity.
The third spell in this build isTempest Kick, which can be extracted from the Ironstud Interrogator’s gauntlets. It performs a jumping spin-kick that hits four times while covering some distance. Though not as fast as Breakrush, it has a longer reach and is ideal when you have a slightly wider window to land your attacks.
The fourth spell is theHeatenchantment. This spell imbues your gauntlets with fire, adding fire damage to your attacks and increasing your overall DPS. It also serves as a light source, which is useful in dark caves where you’d otherwise need a torch and a one-handed weapon to see.
At this point in the game,it’s advisable to have two main weapon slots. This will allow you to equip up to eight rune spells instead of just four. Ideally, your second weapon should have theHeal Auraspell, letting you use Focus Points to heal instead of relying solely on food.
However, sincePlague Ichoris a rare resource, you may have spent it on other upgrades like inventory expansion or increasedHunger Limit. In that case, simply slotHeal Aurainto one of your current slots—this won’t affect the core effectiveness of the build.
Armor Pieces
To complement the agile nature of the weapon’s moveset, we aim to keep our weight class in the lightest, Fast category. This will allow you to perform rapid dodges that cover a lot of ground and are faster than normal rolls, letting you quickly move out of harm’s way. To that end, we will mainly use clotharmorpieces.
For this build, I used:
Preacher’s Helm(leather helmet)
Molding Nith Cloak(cloth body armor)
Holy Prisoner Leggings(cloth leggings)
Wretched Archer Gloves(leather gloves)
This combination brings your equip load to 83, which is under one-third of your total limit—maximizing defense while staying in the Fast category.
Affixes and Enchantments
Although the Shellguard Gauntlets have a moveset with fast attack speed and the potential to deal a lot of damage with normal attacks, this build relies more on the explosive burst damage of rune spells.
Therefore, we are looking for enchanted gear with affixes such as increased focus gain and decreased focus cost. These modifiers will help greatly with gaining the focus points needed to unleash powerful attacks.
Additionally, affixes such as increased stamina regeneration and decreased stamina cost are helpful, allowing you to land more hits before needing to rest.
We will avoid affixes that make resource management harder, especially those that increase focus consumption, since that would make it harder to use the main source of burst damage in this build.
For this build, we will use two ring slots. For the first ring, we are using theAgility Ring, which reduces the stamina cost of your actions while increasing your movement speed. This enhances the mobility advantage of the build, making it easier to dodge enemy attacks.
The second ring, we will use theJade Ring. This ring lets you regain stamina on dealing damage by a set percentage. At mid-game, the Jade Rings you find will usually grant 2% stamina on damage dealt, helping you land more attacks before needing to pause and recover stamina.
Another good option is theFeather Ring, which increases your equip load by a set percentage. Using this can help you equip heavier armor pieces while still keeping your weight class in the Fast range, offering you more protection.
If you only have a single ring slot when putting this build together, I suggest prioritizing the Agility Ring, as speed is the main advantage of this build.
The Wild Monk buildbenefits greatly from fastFocusregeneration and resource efficiency. Key gem choices include:
The Chipped Jewelcan be infused into both weapon and armor pieces and this gem will increase your maximum focus points by 4-15% depending on the level of the gear you infuse it into. The increase in focus points.
The Chipped Emeraldalso works very well with the build as it will increase your maximum stamina by 4-15% and can also be infused onto both weapons and armors .
But for enchanted gears, especially armor pieces that only have one gem slot, we want to prioritize putting inChipped Topazin as many slots as possible in the whole loadout as the increase in Focus Gain makes the build more powerful.
Consumables
There are no mandatory consumables, butStamina and Focus Potionsare highly useful for managing resources in combat.
Bombsalso offer a valuable ranged option when dealing with clustered enemies or finishing off elites and bosses.
Stat Allocation
This build is one of the many builds that you can put together if you have emphasized putting your points in the “Faith” attribute and can easily be built into, from an early game Faith based build.
By around level 12, your stat distribution should look something like this:
Once you’ve reached around level 20, the ideal distribution is:
There’s no need to invest in Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence for this build, which lets you maximize damage output while maintaining good survivability.
However, if you are confident in your dodging and parrying skills, you may shift some points from Health into Faith (for more damage) or into Stamina or Focus (for easier resource management).
Final Thoughts
The Wild Monkis an offensive, close-ranged,Faith-based buildthat will have you moving around enemies, striking with quick attacks, and avoiding danger—dancing like a butterfly in the arena.
While strong at close range, this build can struggle with ranged enemies, especially in groups. Taking hits from ranged attacks while fighting or chasing other enemies can be dangerous due to the lower defense and damage reduction from light armor. Although fast movement and dodging help a lot with mobility, the build may struggle against agile enemies who keep their distance.
Unless you’re using a secondary weapon with a ranged attack or a bow in your off-hand slot, this build lacks ranged options and can be challenged by enemies who constantly retreat.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you’ll need to get much closer to enemies for backstab attacks due to the much shorter attack range of the gauntlets compared to other weapons.
