Shaky Shiverscame together during the Covid-19 pandemic when Kang decided to pursue directing. He wanted his first movie to be a tribute to the horror films he enjoyed watching in his youth, and the film is set in the 90s while capturing the spirit of classic 80s films. Kang spent five weeks at a shuttered Girl Scout camp, perhaps one of the creepiest shooting locations cyou can imagine, to film the feature.

“Cinedigm knows the horror space so well, so as a first-time filmmaker, I’m grateful to know we’re in great hands,” Kang said in a statement. “It’s been a great festival run thus far with the film, finding our audiences who have loved the film at the screenings. Winning the Grand Jury Award at Gasparilla blew my mind. The whole idea was to make this for the old school horror hounds and for them to share it with their families today. Little by little, we’re doing that. I couldn’t be more excited about rolling this film out.”

The script comes from Andrew McAllister and Aaron Strongoni. Nina Yang Bongiovi, Kevin M. Lin, Michael Y. Chow, and Brian Yang executive produced the film, while producers include Jean Shim and Luci Y. Kim. The two stars of the movie are Brooke Markham and VyVY Nguyen, while Sung Kang directed.

Shaky Shiverswill be released in theaters and on Screambox this fall. An exact release date has yet to be announced.
