One of the great things about video games as a medium is that all one really needs to make a good game is a solid idea and the ability to make it a reality. This is being proven especially true in the horror genre these days, with both major releases likeSilent Hill 2and smaller projects such asSignalisall enjoying critical and even financial success.

Developer Francis Coulombe’s Look Outside is another example of a recent horror success. Despite appearing a bit simple at first glance, it’s receiving a lot of praise from the fans thanks to its unique scenario, disturbing visuals and atmosphere, and gameplay that decently complements it all. It just got better today too with the release of Update 1.5, which expands upon several of its aspects and does so entirelyfreeof charge.

To get right to it, Update 1.5 makes a few major additions to Look Outside. These include:
Update 1.5 also includes balance changes, additional dialog for certain encounters, new decisions to make, bug fixes and more secrets to find while roaming the cursed apartment building’s halls.
Players can now also opt to tip their pizza delivery guy. As annoying as tipping has gotten these days, it’s still probably a good idea here considering what it probably takes to get a pizza to their doorstep in this world.

“Stuck inside” takes on a whole new meaning here.
For those unfamiliar, Look Outside puts players into the shoes of one of several very unfortunate residents of a certain apartment building. After something very strange happens on an otherwise normal day, they find to their dismay that they cannot leave. Well, they can try, but even just looking outside is enough to get one turned into an eldritch abomination. Is it the outside world that’s gone crazy, or is it just this building that’s been cursed? Maybe the truth can be found, but survival means staying inside regardless.
Even just looking outside is enough to get one turned into an eldritch abomination.
It’s not exactly a picnic inside the building either, though, as the horrors can seemingly still come and go from the building as they please. In order to survive, players must carefully scavenge whatever they can while creeping along their building’s halls, put together makeshift weapons and equipment, and forge alliances with whoever’s left that they can trust. They need to be very careful on that last point too, as looks can be deceiving. Let a monster into the apartment, and survival becomes that much more difficult, after all.
Look Outside is available now for PCvia Steam.
