The nominees for The Game Awards 2023 have been announced with Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 taking the cake for most nominated games.
The Game Awards 2023 Nominees Over Taken By Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2
Geoff Keighley has now revealed the nominees for this year’s The Game Awards 2023. This year the nominees have been dominated by two games, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2. This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise as Baldur’s Gate 3 had an amazing year, leaving early access in August. But Larian is already doing well this award season snapping up7 awards recently at the Golden Joystick Awards. Will they have a repeat of this during The Game Awards in December? Well, let’s take a look at the nominees list.
BG3 Nominated for 8 Awards
Baldur’s Gate 3 has already been nominated for eight categories including Game of the Year 2023. It’s been a really massive year for games,especially for RPGs. Nominees for GOTY include Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Bros. Wonder andThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. You may notice that Hogwarts Legacy hasn’t got a single nominee this could be due to the controversy surrounding the game. Starfield also seems down on its luck as it’s only been nominated once in the Best RPG category.
A Year of Major Games
Also doing well this year is Alan Wake 2, the horror survival title released in October with great graphics and some fun flashlight mechanics to keep the monsters at bay. Alan Wake 2 is up for eight categories, some crossing over with BG3 including GOTY, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Score and Music, as well as Best Performance. So while they’re not exactly the same genre, they will have to duke it out in a few categories.
Diablo 4the ARPG from Blizzard has also gained two nominations under Innovation in Accessibility and Best Multiplayer. Interestingly Baldur’s Gate 3 is also nominated for Best Multiplayer among Party Animals, Street Fighter 5 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, so it’s a pretty diverse category.Remnant 2the souls-like shooter is in for Best Action Game but it’s going against the colossalArmored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon.
Lies of Phas also managed to snag two nominations for Best Art Direction and Best RPG. Since the RPG category is highly competitive this year it will be a tough one to win. WhileGenshin Impacthas dominated the mobile category in the past couple of years they only appear in Best Ongoing Game. Instead, though Hoyoverse’s turn-based RPGHonkai Star Railgets an entry which is deserved. But it’s going up against major IPs such as Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, Monster Hunter Now and even Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Terra Nil the Netflix entry is also in this category.

The Game Awards 2023 will be live on December 7th at 4:30 PM PT at the Peacock Theater in LA.
