Introduced in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, assist trophies summon characters from all walks of gaming. InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, you can even assist the help of an old Pong-like machine that sends a ball between the two paddles.

10 Best Super Smash Bros. Stages

Here are 10 of the best Super Smash Bros. stages throughout gaming history.

The assist trophies provide plenty of fan service for Nintendo fans and gaming enthusiasts in general. They can be a source of sadness for fans of Waluigi and the Golden Sun series, however, as they have not been represented in the main roster yet. Regardless, here are the best assist trophies in the Super Smash Bros. series, based on novelty and gameplay.

Best Super Smash Bros stages

11Nintendog (Nintendogs)

One of the most annoying assist trophies to deal with, but also one of the cutest, is theNintendog. It’s adorable and woofs towards players as its face takes up most of the screen. The dog is surprisingly in high detail and the quality of the fur looks fantastic. You may hate it during gameplay, but you can’t deny how much of an adorable pup it is. As the game says in the assist trophy’s description, “it’s too cute to be mad at.”

10Lyn (Fire Emblem)

The heroic Lyn from the Fire Emblem series appears in an epic fashion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In her green dress, she crouches down, readying a powerful strike. She says, “I’ll handle this” in an epic way. The anticipation is intense as the screen cuts to black in the background and then she slashes the opponent with a sensational attack. The camera even zooms in on the action as the enemy flies into the side of the arena. She could possibly cause a knockout.

9Isaac (Golden Sun)

The JRPG hero Isaac is represented in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an assist trophy to many fans' dismay. This blonde-haired Psynergy user pushes opponents away with a giant hand. It can also clench their opponents in their grasp and take them off-screen. It looks impressive on screen as he helps the player take out their enemies.

It’s too bad the Golden Sun series is so underrepresented. Hopefully, one day Nintendo will bring out a new game and include Isaac in the roster for the next Super Smash Bros. He could join the likes of Shulk and Cloud.

The last Golden Sun game is 2010’s Golden Sun: Dark Dawn on the Nintendo DS.

8Midna (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess)

The mischievous Midna is perfectly represented in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. As she manically laughs, she uses her massive fist to grab and throw opponents to their doom. Her personality shows with a cheeky smile, putting her hands behind her neck in a chill way. She also has a cool Twilight effect as she disappears and reappears.

7Ghosts (Pac-Man)

Pac-Man’s Ghosts from the original arcade take over the stage when this assist trophy is summoned. They whack opponents as they come into contact with them and make the classic noises from the Namco machine all those years ago. The background even turns blue, which is a neat nod to gaming history.

6Color TV-Game 15 (Pong)

Another neat nod to gaming history is the Color TV-Game 15 that replicates Atari’s Pong machine. It’s one of the foundations of this industry, so it’s fantastic this assist trophy is in a game that celebrates the medium in general. The Pong ball bounces from side to side acting as an obstacle for foes. It’s such an awesome reference.

5Shovel Knight

The only reference to indie gaming, Shovel Knight, appears as an assist trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In fact, this character was heavily requested during the character ballot that fans entered for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS (viaBagoGames).

Like his original game, he bounces on foes with shovel, but he can also dig them into a hole, leaving you an opportunity to strike. It’s awesome that an indie characters gets representation as an assist trophy. Hopefully one can make the leap to a full character in the next Super Smash Bros. entry.

Lyn is fierce in Super Smash Bros Ultimate

4Moon (The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask)

The villainous, scary Moon from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask can be summoned as an assist trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. With its large frame, it plummets down to the ground, causing destruction in its wake. Its ugly face reigns down, causing a genuine terror to your foes on the stage. They’ve ran out of time if they get hit as it can knock out a foe, even from 0%.

3Bomberman

A classic third-party character who unfortunately missed out on a character spot isBomberman. Possibly due to a limited moveset, this Hudson Soft character drops bombs that can expand vertically and horizontally just like his original game.

The model looks cute and truly represents the retro character’s personality and design. Thankfully, you won’t get hit by the mascot’s bombs like the arcade games.

2Waluigi (Super Mario Bros.)

Waluigiseems like he’ll never get his time in the sun as a playable characters as many Super Smash Bros. fans have requested for years. He has been a great assist trophy since he appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, though.

He stomps on his foes in a vicious manner and then whacks them with a tennis racket. It makes sense as the character originated in a Mario sports game and not a traditional 2D platformer. He should join his brother Wario as a playable character in the next Super Smash Bros. entry, however, as the Mario icon has plenty of fans in the Nintendo community.
